Southeast Asia advances in IT industry and becomes an attractive outsourcing destination.
The strong development in the said sector is demonstrated in Gartner’s forecast of $74 billion total value of IT services in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia between now and 2017.
Meanwhile, the early-2014 Gartner survey shows that 3 out of 5 new offshore outsourcing locations in the Asia-Pacific region come from the southeast, including the Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
Tholons 2014 Top 100 Outsourcing Destinations Report also listed 14 Southeast Asian cities. Seven of these cities are in the Philippines, such as Manila, Cebu, Davao, Laguna, Bacolod, Iloilo, and Baguio. Manila (top 2) and Cebu (top 8) were able to make it in the top 10 list.
This prompts Southeast Asia to take advantage of these investment potentials opportunities Some of the essential steps needed are keeping up on the requirements of scale, capacity, and human resources of the latest technology trends. IT companies should also venture into sectors such as solutions development, system integration and social, mobile, analytics and cloud (SMAC) solutions.
All these can go a long way improving the status of Southeast Asia IT industry in the global scene.
